11 October 2024 – According to the recent Gender Snapshot Report published by UN Women, notable disparities exist in the way Artificial Intelligence affects men and women within the labor market. The report indicates that women are significantly more susceptible to job displacement due to AI advancements, with 3.7% of female employment being at risk, compared to 1.4% of male employment.
Furthermore, the report stresses the critical need to close the gender digital divide through enhanced education, targeted training, and the implementation of gender-responsive labor market policies. These efforts are essential to mitigate AI-related job losses and to ensure that women can fully harness the opportunities of the Digital Transformation.
This commitment is closely aligned with the mission of the PAM Women Parliamentary Forum (WPF), which has long championed gender equality across all sectors, including technology and digital innovation. Since its inception in 2021, the Forum has promoted the inclusion of women in STEM fields, advocated for policies that empower women in the face of rapid technological changes, and sought to reduce gender disparities in the digital landscape.
In response to these global challenges, the PAM Centre for Global Studies (CGS) is actively engaged in advocating for the responsible use of AI, for the benefit of all members of society.
