15 September 2025 – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Exponential Science Foundation announced plans to establish the Government Blockchain Academy, a new global initiative designed to foster public sector innovation through blockchain, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technologies.
The Academy will address five strategic pillars: inclusive digital finance, transparent governance, supply chain integrity, climate resilience, and digital identity solutions. Preparatory work will commence in 2025, with the first country programmes to be launched in 2026.
The Government Blockchain Academy will provide a platform for education, dialogue, and co-creation, offering governments tailored support ranging from use case identification to solution design workshops.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) – a longstanding partner of UNDP – continues to promote digital innovation and the responsible use of artificial intelligence, and the digitalization of the private sector also through the work of its Centre for Global Studies (CGS).
PAM has also joined forces with key stakeholders in the area, such as the Feel Think Tank, and contributed to its 2025 GovTech Forum, a leading platform for discussing best practices and strategies on how to advance digital transformation in the public sector in the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf regions.
Furthermore, PAM-CGS is in the process of drafting a dedicated report examining the evolution of cryptocurrency and its implications for global governance, financial stability, security, and technological innovation.
