Statement on the renewed Iranian unprovocked missile and drone attachs against Gulf States

5 May 2026, San Marino — Jointly with the European Union and the United Nations, PAM, and PAM-CGS strongly condemns, in the most unequivocal terms, the renewed unprovocked missile and drone attacks being launched by Iran against the UAE and Oman. These attacks constitute a flagrant violation of international law, a grave breach of the ceasefire of 8 April 2026, and a direct contravention of the binding obligations established by the United Nations Security Council under Resolution 2817 (2026), which demanded the immediate cessation of all attacks against residential areas and civilian objects and called on Iran to halt its threats and support to proxy groups across the region. PAM demands the full and immediate implementation of Resolution 2817 (2026).

The UAE Defence Ministry confirmed that its air defences had engaged 15 missiles and four drones fired from Iran; one drone ignited a fire at a key oil facility in Fujairah, wounding three Indian nationals. Today and yesterday attacks mark the first strikes against the UAE since the ceasefire that entered into effect on 8 April 2026, and represent a dangerous and deeply alarming escalation.

In Oman, a residential building in the Musandam Peninsula was targeted, injuring two foreign nationals and causing material damage to the surrounding area.
PAM strongly encourages all parties to return without delay to constructive dialogue and negotiation, and reaffirms its commitment to all diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a lasting and comprehensive solution — including the restoration of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and full compliance with all relevant Security Council resolutions.

PAM is following with attention the meeting being held at the UNSC in New York, discussing the draft resolution targeting Iranian activities and disruptions to maritime securityin the Hurmuz strait.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean reaffirms its solidarity with the peoples and Governments of the UAE and Oman. Peace and stability in the Gulf are inseparable from peace and world stability. //
