PAM Centre for Global Studies contributes to the Fourth Edition of the Marrakesh Economic Parliamentary Forum

19 June 2026, Marrakesh, Kingdom of Morocco – H.E. Ambassador Prof. Abdulsalam AlMadani, Chairman of the Centre for Global Studies (CGS) of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM), in San Marino delivered remarks at the Opening Ceremony of the Fourth Edition of the Marrakesh Economic Parliamentary Forum for the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf Region.

In his remarks, H.E. Ambassador Prof. AlMadani presented the main achievements of CGS over the past years, including the publication of key analytical reports in cooperation with the United Nations Security Council Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate (CTED), and other international organizations, on issues ranging from education and economic development to security and emerging global risks. He underlined that this work reflects PAM’s broader commitment to evidence-based policy, regional cooperation, and practical solutions to shared challenges.

Focusing on the role of young generations, he stressed that development is ultimately about people, and that youth must be equipped with knowledge, skills, and real opportunities to build successful lives and contribute meaningfully to their countries and communities.

He also highlighted the need for stronger coordination among public institutions, the private sector, civil society, universities, and training centers, noting that no actor can address youth unemployment and skills gaps alone. In this regard, he emphasized the importance of aligning education systems with labour market needs, strengthening professional training, and investing in practical skills development.

H.E. Ambassador Prof. AlMadani further underlined that inclusive systems, equal access to opportunities, and social cohesion remain essential to ensuring shared development across the region.

He concluded by reaffirming that education remains the most powerful investment in the future, and that only through collective action can societies unlock the full potential of their youth and build more resilient, competitive, and inclusive economies.

Amb. AlMadani also highlighted the growing number of international students and young professionals hosted at the PAM-CGS premises in San Marino, underlining the Centre’s role as a platform for knowledge-sharing, training, and intercultural dialogue.

PAM-CGS will continue to support PAM’s initiatives aimed at addressing key regional and international challenges through dialogue, research, and cooperation. In this context, on 1 July 2026, PAM will organize a High-Level Side Event entitled “Global Terrorism and AI – Technological Sovereignty and Deregulation: The Role of Parliaments in Applying and Adapting Existing Frameworks for Effective Countering Actions”, on the margins of the 2026 United Nations Counter-Terrorism Week, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The Side Event will be organized in the framework of the PAM Presidency of the UN Coordination Mechanism for Parliamentary Assemblies on Counter-Terrorism, with the support of PAM-CGS, in partnership with the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Cyprus to the United Nations, the United Nations Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED), the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Centre (UNCCT), the UNOCT Global Programme on Parliamentary Engagement in Preventing and Countering Terrorism, and the UNOCT/UNCCT Cybersecurity Unit.

In the same spirit, PAM-CGS will also organize an additional High-Level Side Event on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly in September, dedicated to the impact of disinformation, information manipulation and social cohesion. //
